Carrying a Baby on your Back

People have been strapping babies to their bodies for thousands of years.  In Somalia, women tie their babies securely to thier backs with long, colorful scarves.  In Nepal, mothers carry thier babies in a garment that also holds money and tools, the Inuit people of the Canadian Arctic can snuggle thier babies in furry linings of their parkas.  In this country, active parents take infants shopping and hiking in various types of slings or backpack carriers.  Researchers have found that stimulating experiences such as exposure to sounds, smells, and colors, actually help infants' brain connections grow.

Write up~ "Wearing" a baby protects him/her from danger and promotes bonding.  What other purposes might it serve?  How do you think "wearing" a baby affects the development of an infant?  Give at least 3 examples.  How does being carried change a child's view of and interaction with the world?

  1. Wearing a baby affects the development of an infant by giving her or him the opportunity to also look at the person the mom or dad may be talking to. It also makes them feel safe and protected. Depending on how old the baby is it also gives them the opportunity to "help" if the parents hands are full or something they may want to grab ahold of something if they are able to. Being carried gives them a bigger view of the world instead of being put in a carseat not being able to see anything. They can see other people and get used to seeing what other humans look like and they can see the environment around them and it can start being familiar to them.

  2. I agree that "wearing" is a huge connection thing that all parents should do. While being attatched to your child you not only get to bond with them but also you always know where they are, and protect them. I think that by having a baby on your back or on your stomach allows the baby to see what your seeing at the time which helps their development. By being up on the parents body the child sees what they are seeing and sees the world like the parent does which also helps the child develop.

  3. By wearing a baby it promotes bonding between parents and child. because they would be able to hear you talking to other people and they would know that they are safe in a carriers. Being carried can change a childs view of the world because they can start getting familiar to there surounding's, they can also start to get familiar with other people Also if they were in a car seat depending on how old the child is can determin how far they can see. 4. By wearing it bonds the parent and the child. by being attachted to your child..they get to hear you and also you know where your child is so you dont have to worry about that part.
Wearing your baby gives them a view of the world from a different level and that also helps the child develop.

  5. "Wearing" a baby helps the baby grow closer to the parent. The baby grows emotionally because they learn to trust their parent and build a caring relationship.Wearing a baby affects the development of an infant because they are socially interacting with people because people see them and talk to them. Wearing a baby helps an infant grow emotionally because people are smiling at them instead of having their backs to them like they would if the child was in a carseat.Wearing a baby helps an infant grow intellectually because people notice them and talk to them which means the baby is building communication skills.A child being worn feels more important in the world because people can see them and they can see other people.

  6. By wearing your baby you are keeping the child not only physically close but also giving your child a rich variety of stimulation, and ready feeding. The baby will grow emotionally attached to the parent and learn to trust their parent. The development of the baby can be effected because by wearing the child high up at almost your eye level they are experiencing and incountering the same things as the parent, so this can help them to develop better social interactions with people. The child will notice the parents interactions with certain people, so their communication skills may also be helped by the parent "wearing" the child.

  7. When you are "wearing" your child you giving you as well as your child the closer bond between the two of you. By wearing your child it also lessons the risk factor of something bad happening to them weather it be something happening to them or them getting into something. It allows them to see from a different perspective and again with the bond it gives to you and your child you become closer attached. I think this bond can be good and bad. Its good because your close connection with entitle less secrets and more of a feeling of trust and safety towards you, but it can be bad because your child will have trouble "letting go" and becoming sociable. Also it doesn't allow your child to crawl around and explore the environment around them. -Zachary Morse
