Play Based Activity

Re-read pages 64 - 67 in Chapter 2. 
Now design some inquiry/play based activities to suit a theme.  First determine what subject you are going to question.  For example insects - What do we know about insects and what do we want to learn about insects.  You will be planning activities that are on a subject for Pre-k and K, grades 1 and 2, and grades 3 and 4.  You will need to have activities that are age appropraite with activities for all 3 groups. Some may be appropriate for more them one age group.  Each age group should have 4 activies: Functional Play, Constructive Play, Games with Rules, and Symbolic Play.  All activities could be tied to your theme (question).

Sometimes children's creativity is mistaken for misbehavior.  Characteristics such as low tolerance for boredom and excitement involved with novelty of design, music, or ideas; language rich in imagery, humor, symbolism, and persuasion; and high divergent thinking ability are associated with creative thinking.  Unfortunately, these traits are also often considered unacceptable behavior in the classroom.  Were you ever punished as a child for thinking "outside the box?"  Have you seen this happen to children in schools?  How do you plan to avoid squelching children's creativity when you are teaching?
