Discuss the child you are observing in terms of his/her communication skills. Make sure to include the age of your child. Consider both expressive and receptive language. Also consider normative scales. Is your child "on target", ahead, or delayed. How does your child communicate? Does he/she use words, gestures, sounds, baby sign language? Lots of detail please.

As you respond to others/ posts please give tips on how to increase language by use of games, finger plays, books, etc. When you write your final domain summary of your child you may want to include this information and hopefully the comments and the suggestions given to you my your peers will be helpful. If you are working with an infant they certainly communicate as well...tell us about how.

My child is 22 months old and as far as communication I believe he is right on target with his speech. He's isn't very sociable with other kids but when it comes to play time with the staff he's always smiling and giggling and bringing toys over and saying what the toys are such as plate "play" or block " ock " and when he stacks the blocks and kicks them over he says "over" When your speeking with him his eyes are right on you and you can tell he is listening and when he's talking he's usually looking at what ever he is talking about. When he is upset or angry he will either cross his arms and wont say anything and wont like you to touch him or be near him or he will kick and scream. He can clearly say " NO ".

The child that I am observing is 11 months old and seems to be on track with her communication skills. Though she is not saying many words she is very clearly saying "no", and she is beginning to put the word mama "ma" together. She can obviously tell when you say her name she will lok right at you though she may not always know what you want her to do, and if she does she will often respond with No! When she gets upset she will often cry and scream, and likes it when she is given attention during her moments.
